November 16: Riel hangs; MTS Centre opens; Constable Uttley dies.

November 16, 1885 - Shortly after 8 a.m. Louis Riel is hanged for treason at the North West Mounted Police compound in Regina. He was reciting the Lord's Prayer with his priest Father Andre when the trap opened. His body was  sent to St. Boniface for burial.

November 16, 2004 - The MTS Centre opens with a gala concert featuring the WSO, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman and Chantal Kreviazuk. The $133.5 million dollar facility ended the nearly three decade long debate about about replacing the old Winnipeg Arena.

November 16, 1920 - Constable James Uttley of the Manitoba Provincial Police dies of wounds suffered in a November 11 temperance raid the Stockyards Hotel in St. Boniface. Constable Alexander McCurdy died from injuries hours after the raid. A third officer was seriously injured.
