July 4, 2008 - The International Association of Macro Engineering Societies (IAMES) recognizes the Red River Floodway as one of the world’s 16 engineering marvels.

July 4, 1944 - Dave Konvalinka of the band Bobby Kris and The Imperials is born in Gimli.

Leo Mol Sculpture Garden
July 4, 2009 - Artist Leo Mol dies in Winnipeg. In 1989 he donated his personal collection of works to the people of Winnipeg. They are on display at the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden.

July 4, 1932 - The MacArthur Transportation Company, forerunner to Brandon Transit, begins operations. It became Brandon Transit in 1955.

July 4, 1957 - The Ste. Rose Hospital opens.
