July 20: Riel charged with treason; Kwakiutl Totem Pole erected at Legislature.

July 20 1885 - Louis Riel is formally charged with treason. The Crown claimed that he ..."most wickedly, maliciously and traitorously did levy and made war against our said Lady the Queen."  Read a detailed account of his treason trial here.
