June 28, 1995 -Manitoba Natural Resources Officer Ken Skwark is killed when the helicopter he is riding in crashes into the Churchill River.

June 28, 1973 – Milwaukee Brewer third baseman Cordel Leonard "Corey" Koskie is born in Anola. He is the first Manitoban to play in major league baseball since Bud Sketchley in 1942 and the first to play in the majors for more than one season since Russ Ford in 1909.


June 28, 1981 - At 4:37 a.m. Winnipeg-born Terry Fox dies of complications due to lung cancer. He was one month shy of his 23rd birthday. Also see the CBC Archives story.
