Feb. 4: Marlborough's new wing; CBC-Carman disaster killed 6; Brandon's ACC opened.

February 4, 1952 - A small RCAF plane hit the CBC radio tower in Carman, Manitoba and all three people aboard were killed. Hours later, three repairmen die when the 590-foot steel tower crashed to the ground. (Read my full story of the disaster.)

February 4, 1960 - The new wing of the Marlborough Hotel opened. This included the 2,000-person capacity Skyview Ballroom, the city's largest. Singer and TV star Juliette headlined the opening night's entertainment.

February 4, 1961 - The Brandon Vocational Training Centre, now Assiniboine Community College, opened.

February 4, 2007 - Winnipeg firefighters Captain Tom Nichols, 55, and Captain Harold Lessard, 57, are killed in a house fire on Place Gabrielle Roy. Four others are injured.
