February 11, 1967 – The first Canada Winter Games opened in Quebec City.

Manitoba finished fifth with 22 medals, including four speed skating golds from Doreen McCannell Botterill. Many organizers of Winnipeg's upcoming Pan Am Games were in attendance to get pointers on running a successful large-scale sporting event.
