October 3: "Spanish" Flu's first victims; Manitoba Law School opens; Dieter's CFL record.



October 3, 1918 - Two soldiers die of "Spanish" Influenza at the I.O.D.E Convalescence Home in Winnipeg. They are the first victims of the disease in Manitoba. For more on the Spanish Flu in Manitoba

October 3, 1914 - The Manitoba Law School formally opens. It was jointly controlled by the U of M and the Law Society of Manitoba until 1966 when it became the university's Faculty of Law. It is the oldest law school in Western Canada.

October 3, 1981 - Bomber quarterback Dieter Brock sets a CFL regular season record for the most pass completions in a single game (41) as the Bombers beat the Ottawa Rough Riders in Ottawa. In 1993 the Green Riders’ Kent Austin would tie the record.

October 3, 1963 - The Brandon Consumers Credit Union Society Ltd. receive a charter for the Westoba Credit Union.
