Feb. 18: Walker Theatre opens; Fireman killed; Empire Hotel's façade.

February 18, 1907 - The Walker Theatre was formally opened with a performance of Madame Butterfly. The theatre opened for business the previous December as it had already booked travelling shows, but construction was not yet completed.

February 18, 1952 - Winnipeg Fireman Frank Christie, 36, collapses and dies an hour after returning from a fire at the Manitoba Barrel and Drum company on 394 Dufferin Avenue. An inquest determined his death to be a heart attack "brought on by exertion necessary in the performance of his duties."

February 18, 1976
- The circa 1882 Cauchon Block / Empire Hotel façade is declared a provincial historic object. A large section of the former Main Street building is on display at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. For more about the block.
