August 1, 1938 – The Kildonan Canoe Club opens with a regatta.

August 1, 1913 – The St. Charles Hotel officially opens.

August 1, 1951 - Tim Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive is born in Winnipeg.

August 1, 1999
- The Manitoba Southern Railway takes over operation of the CN line from Morris to Elgin. (The railway closed a couple of years later).

August 1, 1963 - CKY-FM, (the call signal would eventually become CITI), goes on the air at 92.1 FM.
