December 22: William Whyte School; paving way for police women.

December 22, 1915
- William Whyte School on Powers Street officially opens as the the first public girls' school in Canada, it went co-ed in 1955. It is named for former CPR executive and education advocate Sir William Whyte.


December 22, 1916 - Mayor R.D. Waugh presents a motion at the Winnipeg Police Commission meeting to have two women appointed as police constables. It passed.
