November 26, 1936 - Former school teacher Rhoda Tennant is elected Brandon's first female alderman. For more about the woman and her time on council see my West End Dumplings post(Image source.)

November 26, 1984 - Speed skater Shannon Rempel is born in Winnipeg. She won a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

November 26, 1897 - Dr. Alexander Fleming dies. 

He came to Brandon from New Brunswick in 1881 and was the city's first doctor and pharmacist, operating from a storefront on Rosser Avenue. He was also the first chairman of the school board and served on city council.

He died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 56. Brandon's Fleming School is named for him.

November 26, 1907 - The city of Brandon gets door-to-door mail delivery. For a little Brandon post office history.

November 26, 1929Herman Finger, former lumber mill owner and The Pas' first mayor, dies in Winnipeg.
