October 21: University Stadium opens; Kelvin High School's farewell; streetcars roll.

October 21, 1881 - The first horse-drawn streetcar takes to Winnipeg’s streets. It is operated by the Winnipeg Street Railway Company.  Fare was 10 cents in the summer and five cents in the winter !

October 21, 1974 - The 37 member police department of the R.M. of Fort Garry joins the Winnipeg Police Department.

October 21, 1965 - The final event is held at Kelvin Technical High School. It's a tea for staff, students and alumni.

October 21, 2008 - Aubrey Halter dies in Winnipeg. Noted lawyer, developer and supporter of the arts, Halter was a founding member of the Manitoba Theatre Centre.

October 21, 1876 - Manitoba’s first commercial shipment of wheat leaves Winnipeg from the foot of Lombard Avenue aboard the steamship Minnesota.

University Stadium
October 21, 1967 - University Stadium at the U of M is officially dedicated. It was built for the 1967 Pan Am Games facilities earlier that summer.
