January 21, 1951 - Yvon Dumont is born in St. Laurent. In 1993, he was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, the first Metis to hold that post.

January 21, 2004 - CKY Radio 580 am signs off for the last time. It was created in 1923 by the provincial government but the call signs were taken over and made into a commercial station by Moffat Communications in 1949. Its new incarnation is 102.3 Clear FM.

January 21, 1995 - Nikolai Khabibulin debuts in net for the Winnipeg Jets. He played 19 minutes in a 4 - 3 loss to Anaheim.

January 21, 2011 - Bomber great Herb Gray dies. The Texas-born All-American was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1955 but received a better offer from the Blue Bombers. In nine seasons he won four Grey Cups. Read his Texas obituary.
