January 19: Farewell Jets; Hello Brandon Sun; CFL is born, Peg's first council meeting.

January 19, 1958 - At a meeting in Winnipeg's Royal Alex Hotel, the Canadian Football Council withdraws from Canadian Rugby Union and becomes the Canadian Football League. (For more see my post on Syd Halter, the first CFL commissioner.)


January 19, 1996 - The board of the National Hockey League approves the move of the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix. (See Winnipeg Jets Memorial Site.)

January 19, 1882 - The Brandon Sun Weekly begins publication. That's even before Brandon was incorporated !

January 19, 1888 - The Hon. Thomas Greenway (Lib) becomes Premier of Manitoba and would serve until Jan 6, 1900. A prize-winning rancher from the WestMan area, he is also in the MB Ag Hall of Fame.
